Our South Birmingham Urgent Treatment Centre operates 12 hours daily, from 8 am to 8 pm, 365 days a year. It is a GP-led service where we provide care to any patient of any age with a non-life-threatening illness or injury requiring a same-day appointment. Our service is intended to be used by those patients who have been unable to obtain an appointment through their local GP practice. In addition to direct patient bookings, we also support patients referred to us from NHS111.

All patients booked into this service receive an initial telephone triage by a clinician. If the condition can be diagnosed on the telephone, information will be provided, and an electronic prescription will be raised, if suitable, and sent to the patient’s local pharmacy for collection. If our clinician feels that further investigation is needed, the patient is invited to a face-to-face appointment at our site in Selly Oak, Birmingham, or they are directed to A&E/999 as appropriate.

Our South Birmingham Urgent Treatment Centre also offers daily wound care and dressing change services 7-days a week through our Health Care Associates (HCAs), which can be booked directly via phone.

If we are unable to help with a particular problem, the patient will be directed to the appropriate service for support.

Please note that this service is for same-day appointments of an urgent nature. Unfortunately, we are unable to book appointments ahead of the current date and do not provide follow-up appointments. Additionally, due to the nature of this service, we cannot request any tests or imaging scans that might be required. If these are deemed necessary, a patient will be referred back to their home GP practice for these to be actioned.
