The Specialist Respiratory Review Service supports early input from respiratory specialists and reviews of patients in the community with more complex conditions. This aims to improve outcomes in patients with asthma and COPD, including reducing their overreliance on OCS and SABA therapies, reducing exacerbations and unplanned admissions and providing more timely referrals for patients that may have severe asthma.

Once referred by the GP, a patient’s initial review is conducted virtually, and then, if required, a face-to-face diagnostic appointment is arranged, which can lead to a face-to-face consultation with GPwER.

After the MDT referral, depending on the health condition, the patient may be referred for further investigation or secondary care treatment.
